Many things have changed
over the years since Steel Town Corvettes was founded in 1972. Original
members of the club were primarily interested in the performance aspect
of corvettes, i.e., roadracing, autocrossing, and rallies. As the
membership expanded a more diversified club emerged. Today Steel Town is
many things to many people. Many of us enjoy cruising during the warm weather months. Steel Town's monthly meeting begin at a predetermined location. A club member selects an eating establishment destination and leads the cruise. This is a great way for new and old members to become acquainted. Other events consist of brunch and dinner cruises once again sponsored by the club member. Additional social events of the past year consisted of a club picnic, Fourth of July parade and picnic, Halloween dance and a St. Patrick's Day dance. July is the month that Steel Town holds its annual car show. This year marks the 22nd show, hosted by corporate sponsor, Colussy Chevrolet. The judged show is second to none and is open to all Chevrolets including trucks. Photo plaques are given to class winners (1 st, 2nd, 3rd place). A portion of the proceeds is donated to charities that are suggested by club members. When the meetings move indoors in September, Steel Town arranges for guest speakers. This year there were talks by Tim and "Skip" Colussy, and Jeff Crane, Vice-President of high performance for Goodyear Tires. These special meetings were open to other car clubs. Steel Town's 240 plus members are kept well informed of upcoming events and other pertinent information through the club's monthly newsletter. Steel Town's web site was started in the spring of 2000. Since its inception, there have been over 6500 hits from all over the World. Steel town Corvette Club is many things to many people.
